Glen Campbell Tribute Set At CMT

The CMT Remembers Glen Campbell Special will feature Campbell's final interview on the CMT network, rare archival footage and tribute performances by Urban, Shelton and Reba McEntire.

While Glen Campbell's passing was not unexpected, those who knew him, even just through his music, are hurting. He won six Grammy Awards and had nine No. 1 songs in a career of more than 50 years.

Glen Campbell's last single, "I'm Not Gonna Miss You", was part of his Academy Award-nominated documentary I'll Be Me.

"Just thinking back I believe suddenly that the "raison d'etre" for every Glen Campbell show was to bring every suffering soul within the sound of his voice up a peg or two", Webb said.

His performance of the title song from the 1969 film "True Grit", in which he played a Texas Ranger alongside Oscar victor John Wayne, received an Academy Award nomination.

In the early 1960s, his virtuoso guitar playing earned him session work with Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Monkees and The Beach Boys, with whom he toured briefly in 1965 when Brian Wilson was unavailable. "I think it hit me nearly harder when I found out he had Alzheimer's", says Hill.

"I did what my Dad told me to do - 'Be nice, son, and don't cuss".

Glen Travis Campbell was born on April 22, 1936, in a small town in Arkansas, the seventh of 12 children of a struggling sharecropper. Inside the Delight library, librarian Carrie Tidwell calls it a sign from above that the day before Glen Campbell took his final breath, she felt inclined to paint a rock with his name on it to raise awareness for Alzheimer's.

His sense of humor remained through it all as he prepared for his 2012 Farewell Tour.

He then rolled out a lovely version of one of Campbell's first big hits, 1967's "Gentle on My Mind".

As he would confide in painful detail, Campbell suffered for his fame and made others suffer as well. A popularity enhanced as early as 1969, the year he became also an animator on the tv success with his show the Glen Campbell Good Time Hour.

"Fans give love and love gets shared".

Apart from being a great father, husband, and grandfather to his family, Campbell will always be remembered through his craft in music. The world did indeed lose a little bit of love, but the joy Campbell created will be inspiring a loving feeling for generations to come.
