At 37, Williams is the oldest Wimbledon finalist since Martina Navratilova was the 1994 runner-up at that age. She also won the U.S. Open titles in 2000 and '01. I feel like she wants these majors, and she'll have an opportunity. "But I really tried to be inspired by it".
Williams said: "I have had a lot of issues".
"There were definitely some issues".
The Spaniard fought back from a set down to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
But Williams, who came into the tournament emotionally drained after being involved in a fatal car accident in Florida last month, methodically doused the hysteria.
After Andy Murray's loss in the men's quarterfinals, Britain still has one of its own to cheer for in the Wimbledon singles semifinals: Johanna Konta. I also hope she can get to the final. Williams was the one playing with more margin for error and it showed.
The winner is guaranteed to play a lower-ranked player for the title, with 14th seed Garbine Muguruza, the 2016 French Open champion, facing world No.87 Magdalena Rybarikova in Thursday night's first semi-final.
"She's going to be (the) favorite, " Rybarikova said.
Spain's Garbine Muguruza in action during her semi-final match against Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova. "It's a long two weeks". But she kept on going, and lately has returned to winning. She pulled ahead 5-4 on break points and then raced ahead to close out the first set. Against Pliskova she won 24 of 35 points at net, which was a deciding factor.
This year has been amazing in terms of my play.
A 6-1 6-3 defeat to Elena Vesnina in the first round was a tough one to take. She found time to lament the absence of her sister Serena, who is pregnant and taking time away from the game. Celebrating key points can encourage the crowd, not to mention deflate an opponent, and at times Konta could carry more authority to go with her powerful baseline game. Just expected myself to be ready as much as I could.
Wimbledon tightened its all-white clothing policy in 2014, and even Roger Federer complained about it that year. I know [the crowd] loves Jo and she gave it her all today. "It was her 202nd, I bet", Konta said. I thought she handled it well.
- Konta has hit the most aces of any female player in the tournament, hitting 28 in her five matches. "That went beyond my tennis career", Konta said.
Rather it turned out to be a sign of things to come, with Wimbledon providing more success.
Muguruza kicked off her campaign at the All England Club with a straight sets win over Ekaterina Alexandrova before doing the same against Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 6-2, 6-4 and then Sorana Cirstea in the third round 6-2, 6-2.
However, new coach Sam Sumyk and advisor Martinez have added some steel to her often unpredictable strategy. "Serena's always in my corner".
