Launch of Amazon Prime Day 2017 approaches

Amazon is already offering a bunch of Alexa-exclusive deals for Prime Day, with more still to come, so there's truly never been a better time to join the Echo-powered future. Prime Day 2017 officially begins at 9 PM EST (6 PM PT) on July 10th. If you're a Prime shopper, you may also enjoy early access to some Prime Day offers on July 10 starting 4PM to 6PM (Pacific time). "Every part of our business is working to deliver more deals for a record number of shoppers". Think of it like Black Friday on a Tuesday in the middle of summer or Christmas in July if you're capable of planning your holiday shopping that far in advance.

We expect this year's Prime Day to carry the momentum forward and bring good news to investors.

"We estimate Prime has more than 70 million global subs, including 35-40million+ in the United States", write the JP Morgan analysts, "with plenty of runway for continued growth". Considering the fact that the Alexa is different from every country, the count only includes the number of skills found in the USA version. But Prime Day 2016 was beleaguered by some technical difficulties when some customers found it hard to add certain deals to their shopping carts.

Don't wait until July 10 to start shopping, though.

While Amazon Channels is positioned like a streaming service in the same way its own Amazon Prime Video is, this is more a collection of services than anything. Here's everything you need to know.

Small businesses and entrepreneurs will offer 50 per cent more Prime Day Lightning Deals than last year, with 40 per cent of all Prime Day Lightning Deals this year coming from small businesses and entrepreneurs. For instance, to get HBO Go through Amazon Channels, you'll still need to pay $14.99 or £9.50 (not available in Australia) a month, only tacked onto your Amazon Prime subscription rather than directly to HBO or through your cable provider. You can only get this deal via an Echo device though, just ask Alexa and she'll set it up for you.

Deals are Everywhere - Members can shop deals on all devices, across almost all categories, in all Prime countries. Amazon is extending its annual “Prime Day” promotion to 30 hours this year.

But that isn't what makes it interesting: this year it will be more mobile than ever and will really put etailers through their paces and will focus attention sharply on how well their mobile services work. Some deals include $20 dollars off a year of Prime, $10 off first time voice orders and a slew of other odds and ends.
